How it all started...

My story goes back to the year 1999 when a friend of mine bought a type 2 camper. He had been looking at them for quite sometime when one day a cheap camper was advertised in the local paper. We headed of to have a look and it has to be said that at this point I didn't quite get it.
We arrived at the sellers house and had a good look around the camper and then took it for a spin up the owners privately owned track. We got to the end of the track and then had to do a 3 point turn. This was our first sticking point in the whole new VW experience, we couldn't find reverse and unluckily for us the ash tray did not have the markings printed on it.
When we finally found reverse and performed our manoeuvre we went back and my friend purchased the vehicle.

Now at this point I had no real interest in VW campers, but I was soon brought round to the idea when me and my friend went to BugJam. I was very impressed with the whole weekend and consequently went on the hunt for a VW van.

Blue WedgeMy first van was a type 25, which was not the most attractive looking van, but I wanted something which was cheap to buy. The wedge was not running at the time as it needed a fuel pump, it had no MOT, had been sat in a field for months and needed a bit of welding. £75 pounds changed hands and the van was winched up onto a trailer and taken home. I had booked 2 weeks holiday in which all of the work was completed and the "25" was now back on the road, legal and had a basic interior (bed) made from chipboard. I also located a sink unit for £1 from a local scrap yard and that was chucked in too. The following weekend was spent in Hunstanton trying out the camping life.

Black Wedge

Over the next few months the interior was created, and the van was painted (by hand) with black agricultural paint, (which looked ok if you stood back and squinted) but I still had a craving for something better.... A type2.
